What Worms Tell You About Your Soil

June 22nd, 2008 by dulciarains

By Paul Downing When you see worms in soil you can be sure that the quality of the soil is excellent. It will be rich in organic matter and valuable nutrients. It will be well aired with good drainage. Where there is an abundance of worms in the soil plants will be healthy and sturdy, flowers will be more colourful and plentiful and fruit and vegetables will taste better and be more nutritious. The question that is sometimes asked is this - is this good soil the result of the worm population or are the worms there because the soil is good quality? There is no clear answer to this because the two are so inter-dependent; they are like the chicken and the egg dilemma. One is not possible without the other. In soil where worms are absent you may have assumed that the soil is poorly drained and lacking in organic matter. You may also have assumed that the nutrient content was poor. These assumptions are probably right but the other possibility of course is that the soil is of good quality but the worms have been removed or destroyed by the New Zealand Flat Worm. This worm thrives in the climate of the British Isles and has done untold damage to the native earthworm population here. The Flat Worm has not posed the same threat in its native country because it cannot tolerate a hot climate and exists there only in shaded and damp areas around trees and bushes. Unfortunately no such restrictions apply here and the flat worm has been free to move and breed at considerable speed. Talking to local farmers they have told me how the sea gulls used to follow the plough for the rich picking of earthworms. But the sea gulls do not do this any more because the worms are not in the ground. Whatever the reason for a lack of worms in your soil adding worms will bring benefits. The benefits will be increased where organic matter such as compost or manure is added. The worms can be placed in the soil about three quarters of a spade in depth with some worm bedding. For more details on adding worms to your soil you can read the article “Worms - Fertilise your soil the natural way with burrowing earthworms!” on our site. Another excellent feed is worm cast it is excellent for breaking up heavy clay soil and aerating the ground. You will notice when you added worm cast to your ground that after a while it sinks down a couple of inches as it makes it way down into the earth. Worm cast is also excellent mulch. It will help keep weeds down and it gives the flower beds a fresh well groomed appearance. Leansmount Worms grow and supply worms for soil improvement and worms for composting. Our fishing worms are large and healthy. Fishing The Henry’s Fork….Bob’s Secret Hole…

June 19th, 2008 by dulciarains

By A.J. Klott Meanwhile back at the Yurt… Having been humbled by “Hank’s” famous trout, it was time for a little change of scenery. My little girl, and kids in general, don’t seem to understand catch and release. Granted, I really hadn’t caught anything to release,(except that seven.. err.. “FIFTEEN INCHER”) it was still hard to return to the yurt and explain my lack of fishing success. She would greet me with her big “daddy can do no wrong” eyes, and expect me to tell her of the “whopper” that got away.Especially since she is used to fishing success, since most of her fish are caught in Grandpa’s Pond, where it is basically a “live well” ready to pull out the catch of the day on a moments notice. So, when daddy comes home with no fish or no fish story, you can see the “daddy just dropped a peg” look on her face. BUT-kids being kids, she is ready to go on to the next thing, and that meant a bike ride through the state park to the old Harriman Ranch. We rode the mile or so to the old historical buildings that sit on the grounds of the state park. The ranch was “one” of the summer homes of E.H. Harriman, of Union Pacific Railroad fame, and is operated as a wildlife sanctuary now. The bike ride goes along the Henry’s Fork and while my daughter was chattering away whle pedaling along, I kept glancing to see if any fish were rising. Old habits are hard to break. We got off our bikes and started to explore the buildings. Unfortunately, this being a weekday, they didn’t have many of the buildings open so we couldn’t go inside. One of the groundskeepers saw us peering through the windows of the buildings and wandered over on his riding lawn mower. He shut off the engine and gave us the rundown on the buildings and told us a little background on the ranch. He mentioned that if we were still there on Friday, they would be opening the buildings and doing some tours. Now, being a groundskeeper in a state park in Last Chance Idaho must not be one of the most high pressured jobs one can be employed in–because “Bob”–was a chatty fellow. You might be wondering how I knew his name was Bob?–Well, I of course read it on his name badge! A.J. Klott–private eye!!! Anyway, “Bob”, was filled with questions. Where were we from? How long were we staying? What were my views on existentialism? O.K.– the last one he didn’t ask–but if he did- I wouldn’t have been surprised, because a guy can do a lot of thinking on the back of a riding mower. But I digress once more. So, the conversation eventually turned to fishing the Henry’s Fork. I of course asked how the fishing was on the ranch here, and “Bob” proceeded to tell me that he did most of his fishing above the reservoir in the “anything goes-six fish limit section”. He then did something that you would expect from a guy on the back of a riding mower in Last Chance Idaho. He offered up his “SECRET FISHING HOLE”. Maybe it was the look of undernourishment my daughter had, or maybe he just thought I was a “friendly sort”– but nonetheless– “Bob” was ready to unlock the key to Henry’s Fork. He told me he didn’t usually do this, but he just thought that I looked like a guy that would appreciate his “Secret Spot”. AND if you think I am going to breach “Bobs” trust by telling you where this spot is, well you are wrong!! What I will tell you is “Bob” went to great lengths to hand draw me a personal map–kind of like a Henry’s Fork treasure map– right on my brochure to the ranch grounds. He also gave me detailed instructions–like: “turn left at the Phillips 66, drive down to @#%$^* road, make a right and go EXACTLY 3.3 miles, make another right, drive down as far as you can go, hike on down to the river, walk downstream to the BIG ROCK, toss your worm or lure or fly behind that rock and I will guarantee you will catch a fish!!” A guarantee! I didn’t even get that from any of the fly shops!! “Bob” was pretty sure of himself, and I looked his map over carefully and contemplated eating the brochure, just to make sure that only “Bob” and I would be the two individuals in the lower 48 that held the whereabouts of the “Secret Spot”. I asked if “Bob” needed a blood oath or if he had noticed any of Ashcroft’s men in the area– because I didn’t even want the government to know about this spot. None of this seemed to worry “Bob” and I don’t really like the taste of 20# bond–so I stuck the brochure in my back pocket, and told “Bob” I would try the secret spot that evening and bring him a full report by weeks end.I also told him not to worry about “divulgeing” the whereabouts of the “Secret Spot”, because this was my first time to fish the Henry’s Fork, and I wasn’t about to go back and “squeal like a canary” back in Southern Oregon. Luckily, my daughter was busy chasing butterflies while all this was going on, or I would have had to send her to one of those “brainwashing” places so she would have no recollection of the “Secret Spot”. “Bob” also told us about the springs where the Henry’s Fork originates and that it was a nice place to visit and see big fish and an old cabin right where the water boils out of the ground. That was public knowledge. Before long we were off to the springs and I was planning my evenings fishing…at “Bob’s Secret Hole”. The afternoon was pleasant and the springs were enjoyable, but I was really getting excited to go fishing. Of course, seeing the 25 inch rainbows lying beneath the gin clear waters at the springs, didn’t help to quell my excitement. By 7:30 I could not wait any longer. I pulled my personal map out and headed for the “Secret Spot”. I followed the map to the “T” and made sure nobody was tailing me. You can’t be to careful with “Secret Spots”. When I went exactly 3.3 miles from the turn–there it was– the dirt road that turned towards the river. I had my wife and daughter with me, and fought off the urge to blindfold them, figuring that after twenty-six years of marriage and having the “fruit of my loins” in the back seat, if I couldn’t trust them–who could I trust? Anticipation was great. I saw the end of the dirt road coming and the little parking area “Bob” had described.I pulled to a stop and………….. …………saw three other cars in the “Secret Spot”!! “This can’t be.” I said. “This is ‘Bobs Secret Hole’,–maybe “Bob” is here?” I got my waders on quickly and headed down the trail to the river. Everything was exactly as “Bob” had described it so I knew I was in the right spot. When I got to the river, it looked great–definitely a “fishy looking place”. I walked on down to the trail and saw the BIG ROCK– and behind it…. three other fishermen!! Of which, none were “Bob”. In “Bob’s Secret Hole”. OR should I say “NOT SO SECRET HOLE!!” I looked back upstream and saw four more fishermen in other spots. Counting me, that made eight people in this “Secret Spot”, and before I could even wet a line another two showed up. That totals ten, for those of you keeping track on your “Secret Spot” tote board!! I fished up and down and for two hours and never touched a fish–even behind the BIG ROCK–and I never saw anybody else touch a fish either! That includes the guys using bait and lures.I even waited until I was the last guy on the river–but to no avail. What happens when you get a guarantee from a groundskeeper named “Bob” and it doesn’t come through?? Well, you do what I do. Pack up and head for Montana!! But not before using that map to “Bob’s Secret Hole” to start the evenings fire!! In hindsight, I learned alot about the Henry’s Fork. It is a beautiful place to fish, as tough a place to catch a fish on a fly as advertised, that bringing hamburger meat is a necessity, and that I fully expect to go back and fish it again. Maybe this fall.I also learned that guys on the back of riding lawnmowers don’t typically get paid to guide you to the big fish, and even though I am sure “Bob” catches some fish there, I think when I go back…. I’ll just let “Bob” have that “Secret Spot” to himself. He and the other nine fishermen…. A.J. Online Dating Tips-I See Someone I Like-Now What?

June 7th, 2008 by dulciarains

By Jennifer L. Hunt HTML Source EditorWord wrap So, youve signed up to a couple of dating sites and have actually found a few people youd like to get to know better maybe even date. What do you do now? Well, you can put up your profile and wait for someone to contact you, but youll probably get much better results if you take the initiative. When you find someone interesting and feel the urge to say “Hey”, dont be bashful! That person may just love to hear from you. After all, they created a profile, just like you, in hopes of meeting someone. You definitely wont know unless you contact them and find out. Ladies, dont be shy - men love to be pursued! How do you initiate contact? The most common ways to contact someone is with an email, an instant message, or a wink. I recommend saving the instant messaging until youve exchanged a few emails because it gives you more time to think about what you are going to say and to get a feel for the other person. Once you get more familiar with each other, then you can start chatting. If you dont have a paid membership, youll most likely be limited to using winks or smiles or something similar. These are canned messages that will say something like “Nancy is interested in you” or “Joe winked at you”. Winks and smiles are a quick way to say hello but drastically limit your ability to pique someones interest. This puts a lot of pressure on having a terrific profile because it will have to do all of your talking for you. Email is best in the beginning. Emailing a potential date is a lot like flirting. The purpose of the first email is to get them to respond, to open a dialogue. You want to get their interest but leave it open ended so that they will respond back to you. Keep your emails short and charming. Another tip: dont send a barrage of emails to one person, follow their pace and try to keep up. (If they send 4 a week, you send 4 or so a week.) So How Do You Write That First Email? When replying to personal ads, try to be, well, personable. Write at least a paragraph or two about yourself and what you like about them or their personal ad. Many of the principles of profile writing apply to email, such as staying positive, being honest, and paying close attention to spelling and grammar. Meeting someone online is very exciting and can make you feel like a love struck teenager, but do your best not to sound like one. Most of us are looking for someone that is a little more mature, someone that has potential for being a lifetime partner. When you first start communicating with a person, there is nothing wrong with flirtation, being happy, and laughing, but make sure its not over the top. Also, dont start by pouring out your soul, telling him or her all about your ex-spouse or ex-significant other. Avoid talking about personal things such as financial problems, health issues, or stories about your dysfunctional family. This is a huge turnoff, and an excellent way to scare someone away. Save that kind of talk for your Thursday night poker game or day at the hairdresser. If you are a single parent, a little bit of conversation about your kids is fine to break the ice and find common ground, but remember you are trying to build a romantic connection, so keep it too a minimum. Always be honest! If the relationship moves forward, the truth will come out eventually. Its far better to be yourself up front rather than tell a silly lie in the beginning, only to be found out and have a potential relationship fall apart. Keep it positive! The last thing anyone wants is to send a message to someone and in the response, hear all about their past failed relationships, health problems, or financial woes. You can share the doom and gloom after you get to know each other a little bit. Or better yet, just put all that stuff behind you and move on. Theres no time like the present to start fresh! Compliment something you found interesting in their profile. This is where its important to read the persons profile. It gives you things to talk about. For example, if you are a woman and you find a man interesting and he has Labrador dogs just like you, you could say something like, “Hi. My name is Mary and I noticed in your profile that you have Labs. I do too!” From there, give a brief description of your dog, mention that you would enjoy hearing back, and sign off. Avoid overtly sexual comments. Dont come on too strong at first with sexual innuendos and try not to comment on the persons photo. Find something a little more deep to comment on, maybe something they said in their description. Find a way to continue the communication. The main point of the first email is to get them to notice you and to respond back to you. Dont give up too much information, but tell them enough to get them interested. You are trying to get a conversation going, so asking questions is a good idea, as long as you dont ask too many. Mention things you have in common, and ask a question or two about them. For example, when you first start messaging with someone, you could ask, “Did you do anything fun this week?” “Do you have any great plans for the weekend?” This will help you learn more about the person without seeming nosey. After you have been communicating with someone special for a while, you can use innocent questions to see if you can find an opening in time when the two of you might meet. Try to avoid long letters with little details that might be considered boring. Keep it to the point, but try to let your personality shine through. Then, a good rule of thumb is “compliments and questions.” An earnest compliment on the persons accomplishments, writing style, or life goals will say a lot. Here are a couple of good, ice-breaking starter topics: If you live in the same area, comment on the area, or something relating to it. If you dont live in the same area, you can ask questions about where they are. Music and movies are also a good conversation-starter; most everyone likes some kind of music or movie. Maybe you went to the same college or better yet, a rival school. Poking fun at rival schools is always a fun way to break the ice. And sign your real first name If you work this right, the person will contact you back. Remember, even if you get a response, youll have to keep their interest. In the emails that follow, keep asking questions and keep complimenting (while remaining honest and positive). When you feel comfortable, you can move on to more intimate forms of communication like instant messaging, the telephone, and eventually, meeting in person. If a day goes by and you havent heard from them, rather than inundate the individuals mailbox with messages, leave one short, sweet message that provides a small hint to prompt him or her to reply. Remember Dont give out your full name, personal email address, or phone number in this initial email; wait until youre both interested and its apparent that its going somewhere. Wait. Tips To Choosing The Right Button Badges

June 1st, 2008 by dulciarains

By Praveen Samra Button badges are arguably one of the most classic promotional items. Events as diverse as concerts, hen nights, political campaigns and charity fund raising have all seen the benefits of using button badges as small merchandise items. Funky and with an enduring appeal, button badges can be manufactured in a choice of shapes and in a range of different sizes, enabling companies to be as creative as they want. Small quantities are unusually economic, whilst very large runs can also be produced within the tightest of budgets. The humble tin button badges has timeless appeal - collectible, trendy and extremely economical. The growth in demand for these items continues with avid collectors always on the look out for new badges to add to their collections. As with any promotional products, a few key points should be taken into account when deciding on the right button badge for a campaign. First, establish the budget and timings. Also check if there are any extras not included in the quotation, like artwork, origination and delivery costs. Identify the marketing objective and consider the brand image. Although button badges are primarily used as promotional giveaways to raise awareness, remember that a quality brand can easily be devalued by poor quality products. Understand the target market as this will help in deciding which design will have the best impact on them. Finally, be innovative and creative. In order to stand out from the crowd in a competitive market, button badges need to be original and eye-catching in every way. *recommended suppliers for button badges, Rocket Badges the largest suppliers of button badges in the uk Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Praveen_Samra http://EzineArticles.com/?Tips-To-Choosing-The-Right-Button-Badges&id=550314 instant personal loans guaranteed calculate taxes from paycheck best personal loan rates money lenders for medical offfices

How to Get Into Law School - Three Tips for the College Student

May 29th, 2008 by dulciarains

By H. Jefferson, Jr. I would have never bothered to read an article like this at a time when it would have mattered because, unfortunately, I didn’t think about how to get into law school as early and often as I should have. Indeed, if you’re already more than half way through undergraduate school, you may want to look for advice somewhere else. If, however, you are one of those chosen few youngsters who know what you want to do in life years before you have any business knowing such things, then I’ve got a few words of advice that will help you get into the law school of your dreams. Although much of this will seem obvious, please take it to heart and try to understand why following these tips can make your life much easier in the future. Tip #1 - Your GPA The premise of this article relies on the assumption that you haven’t yet had the opportunity to screw up your college career yet. As such, you must make every effort to maximize your grade point average (”GPA”) during your undergraduate years. Others will lie to you, but the truth is that your GPA, coupled with your LSAT score, are the most important factors in determining your admissibility to whatever law school you choose. Let me put this another way - your GPA is much, much, much more important than where you go to school, what activities you participate in, what classes you take, who your grandpa is, etc. So if you are going to undergraduate school for the sole or primary reason of going to law school, take classes and pursue majors in which you can excel. Your high GPA will make life much easier when it comes time to apply to law school. Tip #2 - Start Preparing for the LSAT Now About 60% of prospective law students will do nothing or next to nothing to prepare for the Law School Admission Test (”LSAT”). Another 39% or more won’t do anything to prepare until six months or less before their test date. If you get started now, with literally years to perfect your understanding of the test and the time-proven strategies for maximizing your score, you have an excellent chance of getting a score that will virtually guarantee your admission to any school. Anyone who has been through the process will tell you that the secret to success on the LSAT is practice. I’m not going to discuss the test and its components in any detail, but it is sufficient for me to say that the LSAT test does not test your knowledge of anything. Instead, it is designed to test your ability to think in certain ways. Anyone can learn how to excel at thinking in these ways, but it takes lots of time and lots of practice. You shouldn’t be surprised to learn that the few months before most people take the LSAT is a hectic time. In addition to preparing for the LSAT, you may be preparing your law school applications, finishing your final college courses, and rejoicing in the prospect of your impending graduation. The result of all this is that even those who think they are preparing extensively aren’t even coming close to practicing as much as you could if you start now. So my advice is that you begin reading all the practice materials you can, completing practice tests and even attending LSAT prep classes now. Changing the way you think - or training yourself to think in a certain way - is a demanding and (biologically) a lengthy process. If you give yourself years of preparation you will demolish even your smartest competitors who have spent just weeks or months learning how the LSAT works. Tip #3 - Do Interesting Things In the event even your best efforts don’t result in a 4.0 GPA and 175 of the LSAT, you will find yourself in need of the law school admission advice found in my book, Covert Tactics for Getting Into the Law School of Your Choice. As you will learn, students without premier numbers are given an opportunity to plead their case for admission via a personal statement, interview and/or personal visit. When it comes time to make that case, you should have something interesting to say. Thus, much as you should prepare for the LSAT now, you should begin gathering ideas for you personal statement now. Don’t “volunteer” just for the sake of volunteering, but seek opportunities to do fascinating things that may - or may not - reinforce your desire to go to law school. This article may be freely reprinted or distributed in its entirety in any ezine, newsletter, blog or website. The author’s name, bio and website links must remain intact and be included with every reproduction. H. Tricyclic Antidepressants: Waging The War Against Depression

May 26th, 2008 by dulciarains

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Athlyn_Green] Athlyn Green Tricyclic antidepressants are an effective tool in the war against depression. If you are suffering from this challenging disorder, your doctor may recommend one of these drugs to treat your symptoms. You may have questions. What exactly is a tricyclic antidepressant? How does it work to treat depression? What are the benefits and risks of using one of these drugs? Tricyclic antidepressants have been used since the 1950s. These drugs receive their name from their molecular structure, which includes three rings of atoms. They are thought to work by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine, dopamine, or serotonin by nerve cells. A tricyclic antidepressant will often be called upon in treating clinical depression. Your doctor will decide upon one that will be appropriate for you, taking your age, your medical problems, your current medications, possible previous use of antidepressants, and your history of depressive symptoms into account. If the one chosen does not suit, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the dose. Also, if tricyclic antidepressants do not help then another type of antidepressant may be chosen. Side effects may be encountered and include dry mouth, constipation, sweating, slight hesitancy in passing urine, blurring of vision, and drowsiness. These effects will often diminish as your body becomes used to your tricyclic antidepressant. A lower dose can be started with, to decrease adverse effectsalthough this would delay beneficial clinical effects of the drug. It is important to remember that your depression is not a condition that will go away on its own and your doctor will weigh possible side effects against tangible benefits. It is very important to get clinical depression under control and tricyclics have proven to be valuable in battling depressive symptoms. There are different types of tricyclic antidepressants: imipramine, amitriptyline, doxepin, nortriptyline, to name a few, under different brand names: Elavil, Tofranil, Adapin, among others. Tricyclics are not tranquillizers and are not considered addictive. Most people can stop using antidepressants, reducing the dose gradually to lower the risk of any withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor may also recommend psychotherapy in conjunction with a tricyclic antidepressant to treat your depression. Many people find that talking about their condition reduces the stigma and helps them to realize that it is not all in their head, that they have a legitimate health condition. Another popular treatment approach is use of natural remedies. Natural supplements work in a fashion similar to antidepressants, relieving and alleviating symptoms. Chemical changes in the brain are at the root of depressive disorders and play a large role in well being. By correcting and restoring neurotransmitter functioning, supplements act to restore brain balance. Many find that natural supplements work as effectively as [http://www.beat-your-depression.com/clinical_depression.html] tricyclic antidepressants, without adverse side effects. What do herbal preparations contain? Natural supplements include potent ingredients which work to calm the nervous system and treat depression effectively. A good quality natural preparation will contain vitamins and minerals, amino acids, enzymes, specialty supplements and herbal extracts. Ingredients may include chamomile, which offers beneficial anxiolytic effects (anxiety reduction); valerian (which research suggests has a neuroprotective effect), used for treating mood disorders such as depression; calcium and magnesium, included to alleviate emotional and physical stress; and ginkgo biloba, shown to increase oxygen content to the brain, aiding in concentration and mental acuity. Ginkgo biloba is also used for treatment of depression. These supplements are specifically formulated to tackle depression head-on, similar to a tricyclic antidepressant. It is important to discuss any depression treatment with your doctor and then to take preparations as directed. With the treatment options available in modern times, utilizing either tricyclic antidepressants or natural remedies, depression can become a distant memory. You can wage the war against depression and emerge the victor! Athlyn Green is an avid health enthusiast with an interest in natural remedies for treatment of health disorders. Make Every Day A Grandparents Day

May 18th, 2008 by dulciarains

By Yana Berlin If you were lucky enough to have a grandparent growing up, you know that the special bond that develops within the relationship can make a big difference in the life of a child. Grandparents are valuable and irreplaceable when it comes to teaching children, telling them stories of their past, and most of all spoiling them to a point where the parents sometimes get angry. Luckily, Ive been on both sides of the fence. I grew up with two sets of grandparents, and the sudden death of one of my grandfathers when I was 26 was a traumatic experience for me. My grandfather was my advisor and a close friend, and the unconditional love and support he provided to all of us was indispensable. He taught us so many important lessons that now, 15 years later, not a day goes by that I dont think of him. Why do I write about grandparents in a Fabulously40 blog in January? Because our grandparents play a huge role in our lives and the lives of our children, and we should make it a point to reciprocate when they become older and need us more than we need them. However, I have learned that a few ground rules need to be followed in order to smoothly transition our roles as we get older and they need us more and more. Stay in Touch My parents instilled in me (and I instilled in my children) the following rule: as soon as you are old enough to speak, you will pick up the phone and call your grandparents. This turned out top be a simple task that my kids eagerly adapted to. Once a week we would all gather around the phone and make calls to each grandparent to find our how they were doing and to say I love you, even if they we had just seen them the day before. This simple task embedded in my young childrens brains set up a pattern for future. Today, when my two living grandparents are in their late 80s and 90s, I dont have to remind my children to call. They know that I call my grandma and grandpa every day (it only takes two minutes and makes their day), so they have no excuse not to call. My children developed their own system, synchronizing the calls between the four of them, so that their grandparents and great-grandparents receive a call at least once a day from one or two of them. I hate to sound like an old AT&T commercial, but in todays world, we are literally only a phone call away. Add to that the convenience of email and text messaging and there really is no excuse for not staying in touch on a regular basis. Its Never Too Late I have a relative who, in my opinion, did not do a great job of bringing up her kids. She was too liberal and permissive, and allowed her children to do whatever they wanted. You can probably guess how they turned out. Worse, her children were taught to take but not to give. They would always show up to collect their birthday gifts and Chanukah money, but never bothered to call throughout the year. This went on for many years. I frequently voiced my frustrations and disapproval to their mother, even getting in arguments with her about it, but to no avail. Finally, I decided to try something different. This year I spoke directly to her kids. I met with them and asked why they never take the time to call, visit or send a card. Their united response was: No one ever told us we have to. Mom rarely calls or visits, so why should we? I promptly gave them a no-nonsense lecture about the importance of staying in touch with family, and to my surprise, it had an impact on them. After our little chat, my niece and nephew began calling their grandma regularly. When they skipped a week, I got right back in their face reminding them of their duty. The moral of the story is that its never too late to steer your loved ones in the right direction. In fact, it is our duty to teach our children, nieces, and nephews and guide them in the right direction. I realize that for some people its easier to say nothing and simply avoid the situation. But I also know that what we teach our kids today will reflect in their character the rest of their lives. What they learn from us now will make them better people, and for that Im willing to be the wicked mom, aunt or friend. Im also more than willing to remind you that kids need to be taught and disciplined. So please dont wait for Grandparents Day to call, visit or send a card. And teach your children to do the same. After all, every day should be Grandparents Day. Yana Berlin Founder of http://www.Fabulously40.com Join us as we embark on our journey to the best part of our lives. May 9th, 2008 by dulciarains

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sacha_Tarkovsky] Sacha Tarkovsky Arthritis is a debilitating disease that causes severe physical pain and emotional turmoil for millions of people who suffer with it. Many do nothing about it, simply because they feel the cost of joint replacement surgery is too high. Prices for corrective joint surgery, however has fallen dramatically in price making them more affordable than ever and surgery is available at a cost of around 70% less than surgery in the US and Europe, in India. Joint replacement is now affordable at 75% less than in the US or UK! A hip or knee replacement for example, would cost around 20,000 dollars in the US, but in India costs just $4,500. While the cost may be competitive there is no difference in the quality of treatment. Many patients from Europe and the US are now traveling to India to have joint replacement surgery done, are saving enough money to enjoy a holiday of a lifetime and still have money left over! Before we look at the standard of care in India for joint replacement surgery, lets look at the devastating affect arthritis can have: What is arthritis? There are over 100 different kinds of arthritis, all of which affect one or several joints in the body. The word arthritis comes from the Greek words, arth meaning “joint” and “inflammation”. Arthritis effectively means “inflammation of a joint”, which is not strictly true of the condition as in many kinds of arthritis the joint is not actually inflamed or swollen, but the pain is still there. The consequences of arthritis The affects of arthritis can be devastating: 70% of patients with Arthritis show evidence of radiographic changes within only 3 years. 50% of patients with arthritis are disabled and unable to work within 10 years. In the long term, the major consequences of Arthritis include: Joint deformity, joint misalignment, disability, emotional trauma and even premature death. India the leader in medical tourism The onset of cheap mass travel has opened up India to many patients who can now travel to have their surgery done at competitive cost. Traveling to another country for treatment is referred to as medical tourism. This is now a multi billion pound industry worldwide and India is the world leader in medical tourism and 500,000 medical tourists traveled to India in 2005 alone. Heres why: Cost of Treatment With costs far lower than in Europe and the US for operations such as joint replacement, India is of interest to anyone wanting this surgery. Cost however is not the only consideration; patients want quality care and treatment. Quality of facilities The quality of Indian private hospitals is on par with any in the world, as are success rates for operations. Quality of medical experience Indian medical doctors and nurses are known worldwide for their expertise and professionalism, giving medical tourism in India credibility among overseas patients. Quick Access to surgery One of the huge advantages of medical tourism is the quick access to surgery and cutting out the emotional stress of long waiting lists. Holiday options A byproduct, but one that is appealing, is to relax after surgery in one of the largest, most beautiful and diverse countries in the world. When you look at the facts: Low cost, quality facilities, expert care and the opportunity to see a different country, it is no wonder more people are considering joint replacement in India and a wide array of other treatments. Medical tourism is growing in popularity and if you suffer from arthritis and need joint replacement therapy, you should consider what India has to offer.
